Best Restaurants in English Harbour Town in Antigua
1. Trappas
Trappas is one of our favourite places to go for dinner especially if we’re after some good quality local food. We love it as the food is tasty. And it’s also very family friendly as it even has a kids menu. They have a fixed price menu (all starters are the same price, all mains are and all desserts are too) which makes it great if you’re eating out and splitting the bill.
Did you know – the food is so fresh that if you arrive early you can see them bringing in the catch of the day. Carl always eats the same thing – the pork chop – and it’s massive! Whilst the rest of us like to mix it up.
Interestingly, most restaurants in English Harbour don’t necessarily do so well on the desert front Sara is a big fan of dessert, and this is where Trappas does really well. Their desserts are out of this world tasty! There’s a chocolate orange brownie – and wow, it’s the best dessert in the area!
2. 5 Senses
This is one of the best fine-dining restaurants in English Harbour. Its concept combines French cuisine with Mexican flavours.
This food is absolutely delicious! We had the Bouillabaisse and it’s one of the best we’ve ever eaten as it was full of flavours. The food is rich and the wine is divine – it’s definitely somewhere to come for a special occasion.
As well as the amazing food, we really like the pretty waterfront location, however, you’ll need to remember the mossie spray as they like to come out at night.
They have also just opened up a cafe in Falmouth Harbour called Paris. It serves great coffee fresh pastries and tasty sandwiches. Perfect for both breakfast and lunch if you’re in the marina, plus there’s great people watching from their outdoor seating.
3. Colibri Antigua
Colibri means hummingbird and you might even spot one in their beautiful garden restaurant.
This has to be one of the best restaurants in English Harbour in Antigua with its combination of French and Creole flavours and a French wine list to match. It won’t surprise you to know that the owner is French. He provides the French passion to the restaurant – service here is impeccable!
They sometimes also have music in the evenings which really adds to the atmosphere. We live just a few buildings away and love to sit and listen from our terrace.
The fish is exceptionally fresh which you can taste. We’ve had the Carpaccio de Thon, we loved that it was mixed with passionfruit for a zesty flavour. The mains are also equally as good. You’ll see locally sourced ingredients on the menu such as the Hall Valley chicken they use in their Colombo De Poulet (which is delicious!).
Whilst the service is great, however, it can also be a little slow. So make sure to arrive early before it gets busy, as it’s usually fully booked most nights. Coincidently, they’re great with kids here, so you can do family-style fine-dining.
4. Flatties
Flatties are a cool grill joint in the middle of town with good music and a fun street-side vibe.
It’s got a great peri-peri grill concept with a super simple menu. Also, there are different grill options to choose from that come with some tasty peri-peri flavours, you select how hot you like it and then you add on your sides. Our go-to are the half chicken and the ribs, with the famous potato bake and coleslaw. It’s all good homemade food, and the potato bake is 100% worth a try as it’s a twist on dauphinoise potato.
It’s really family-friendly here, and there’s plenty of space to bring in prams. We tend to get the half chicken or the wings and then take off bits of meat for the boys to eat to make a smaller plate for them.
5. Jackie’s Kwik Stop
If you’re looking for a tasty breakfast or lunch then Jackie’s is the place to go. It’s open from 8 am each day and serves delicious fresh food. They have great smoothies and the boys really like the pancakes!
Best of all it’s perfectly located at the main junction into town so you have a great place to people watch from!
6. MAIA at South Point
The location and sushi at MAIA are incredible. As a family we all really like sushi, so if like us, you really like sushi then this is the best place in English Harbour in Antigua for it!
It’s on the waterfront next to Falmouth Marina with a stunning view and beautifully designed layout with a lounge space in the middle. It’s fine-dining sushi at its best.
We’ve always ordered a selection between us all on the table as that’s the best way to sample the menu.
7. Paparazzi
This is the place to go if you’re looking for a pizza. They’ve got loads of different ones to choose from, such as your four cheeses and also some more off-the-wall flavours. The pizzas are fresh and they taste great.
The team there are always really welcoming and makes a point of making sure that we have enough space for our pram with the boys. It’s got great roadside dining on the busy part of the road, so it makes for fun people-watching. We often see friends walking by who jump onto our table and join us for food!
8. Indian Summers
We love curry, and Indian Summers really delivers on the flavours. Back at home in the UK we both usually pick a meat-orientated curry such as a lamb rogan josh, however, here we always go for the fish ones. They are delicious!
Sara is a fan of the fish saag and Carl of the Goan fish curry – you get really good amounts of fish. We also love having a side of dal tadka and some naan bread. They also offer take which is great for a night in.
Just a heads up that it can get busy and food orders can take a while to come, so we’d always recommend ordering some poppadoms to keep you going during the wait.
9. Roti Sue
Originating in the Caribbean with Indian roots. A roti is a wrap style sandwich filled with curried meats or vegetables wrapped inside a roti. Roti Sue is the best place in English Harbour in Antigua to get a delicious roti for lunch.
You can chat to Sue as she freshly prepares you roti as you watch. Our boys love to come here and chat with Sue.
The roti’s so fresh that the fillings depend on what’s available that day. So you’ll never have the same roti twice. She also has wonderfully tasty smoothies.
10. Club Sushi & Steak House
This cool restaurant come bar can be found above the Antigua Yacht Club next to Falmouth Marina. The water’s edge tables have a great view of the marina.
Whilst it’s got sushi in its name, please don’t let this put you off as it does serve other dishes such as burgers and steaks.
We love to go on a Wednesday at 7 pm as it’s quiz night. If you win the quiz then you get your food for free (up to a table of 6 as that’s the max team size). Amazingly we’ve won once, ha ha, but we’re yet to win a second time!
They do these really cool sushi boats that have a selection of different pieces in them. Be warned they are huge! We’ve been with friends before and over-ordered and ended up taking quite a bit home. We’d recommend ordering a boat between a few of you and then topping it up later with extra dishes if you’re still hungry!
11. Bar-B’s
Below Club Sushi is Bar-B’s which is the restaurant and bar at the Antigua Yacht Club. This is the perfect place to come for lunch as it’s got a good lunch menu and relaxed environment.
We go there a lot as Cam our eldest loves to play pool and it’s the only place open during the day with a pool table. It’s also got a great outdoor space for kids to run about in. You’ll usually find other kids hanging out there too. It’s also the place to head to if you want to watch sports as they have a large TV and have most matches/games on.
On the menu you’ll find options such as burgers, steaks and salads as well as fish dishes.
12. Momsy Burger
After a good night out and a few drinks you might fancy something to end your night and soak up your alcohol! The place you need to head to is called Momsy Burger and you can find them in the car park opposite Paparazzi. It’s a street food place that makes burgers.
You’ll often find groups of (drunk!) people hanging out and sharing the end of night gossip whilst they wait for their burger to be cooked. Carl’s eaten quite a few in his time!
Best Restaurants By Boat From English Harbour in Antigua
13. La Brasserie d’Antigua
Across the water from Nelson’s Dockyard is this cool French restaurant that sits on the waters edge. What makes is so lovely is that it’s away from the hustle and bustle of the main town and it’s so much quieter.
The owners are happy to pick you up by boat from Nelson’s, or alternatively, you can drive over there. We like the boat ride as it adds to the experience!
On the menu are classic French dishes such as souffle, duck a l’orange and tarte tatin. All of which are really delicious, and we’ve also tried a selection of their fish dishes including the mahi mahi ceviche and seared tuna main.
14. Boom at Gunpowder House, Admiral’s Inn
Boom is part of Admiral’s Inn which is a collection of accommodations and restaurants in English Harbour that are connection to Nelson’s Dockyard. It is popular as a place to go for a poolside hang out and lunch.
We’ve enjoyed the light courses such as the roaster butternut squash salad. Because at lunchtime we aren’t always hungry for big meals. They do have large mains on the menu as well as salads and sandwiches.
They have day pass packages that includes the use of the pool as well as lunch. As these change quite a bit, it’s probably best to call to ask for the latest offers. They do allow children, and you do need to pay for them as well. When we’ve been we haven’t taken the kids, as sometimes it’s just nice to have some adult time.
Best Beachside Restaurants In English Harbour in Antigua
15. Loose Cannon Restaurant
This restaurant has it all going on – great food, amazing location, live music and fantastic service! There really isn’t anything that we can say isn’t great about it. It’s perfectly located in the centre of Galleon Beach.
As a family, it’s always hard work taming our boys when we eat out, however, at Loose Cannon it’s easy. We let them play on the beach whilst we wait for the food to arrive. And it’s also got a good kids menu for them to choose from.
It claims to have the best burger in Antigua and we’re going to have to agree – both the chicken and beef options are delicious! Starters wise there is lots to choose from and you could eat an entire meal of “little plates” in a tapas style.
On Saturdays and Sundays they have live music such as steel drums and DJ’s playing from lunchtime until late. Once the music kicks off it starts to build up an Ibiza party-style vibe. And you’ll often see young, old and families all getting their groove on.
To get there you can take their free shuttle that leaves Covent Garden Supermarket every half hour starting at lunchtime. Or, if you want to take a swim before lunch then you can take the water taxi from Nelson’s Dockyard.
16. Catherine’s Cafe
Catherine’s Cafe is at one end of Pigeon Point Beach, tucked back from the water’s edge. It’s locally sourced ingredients delivering French cuisine with a beach twist. Think stylish whitewashed wood cafe with beautiful white cabanas outside in the sand.
We’ve eaten there a few times and have really enjoyed the food. The food is delicious and the experience is really well considered from your arrival through to the food itself and the location. It is possibly one of the most expensive restaurants in English Harbour in Antigua, however, it’s definitely worth it at least once in a visit!
They often have live bands playing music at the weekends, and we love to listen to them from the beach as the boys play. The restaurant (and other diners) is very child friendly, and I remember on one occasion Cam kept trying to steal this mans walking stick, haha!
17. Bumpkins Bar
A ritual of ours is that the first thing we do when we get to English Harbour is Antigua is get a banana colada from Bumpkins Bar. Once we’ve had one, we know that we’ve arrived! They do serve other drinks, in case you’re wondering.
Bumpkins is on the right hand side of Pigeon Point Beach, it’s super casual with a friendly and welcoming vibe. No need to book as most people rock up as and when during a trip to the beach. We’ve never had to wait long for a table or service.
Their food menu is simple, tasty great value. We usually eat the fish burger as they’re very fresh and really well seasoned.
